Belinda Llewellyn ND BHSc (Naturopathy)
Belinda Llewellyn is a qualified Naturopath, Yoga and Meditation teacher. After more than 20 years working in the field of health, Belinda founded Gaia Natural Medicine in 2013.
Did you always want to be a Naturopath and wellness coach?
“It was a childhood dream, but like many people do with their early ambitions, I discounted it. Then on Saturday February 7, 2009, bushfires burned throughout the state of Victoria. I came home from work and saw that people were losing everything they’d worked their whole lives for. I thought ‘what are you doing? Yes, you love your work but, the work environment and your lifestyle choices are making you very unhappy!’ I knew instantly to go and follow up my childhood dream of becoming a naturopath and within two weeks I was sitting in my first lecture of a four year full-time Naturopathy degree.”
“When we’re really ready for a change, things can happen very quickly. It’s as if the whole universe is coming together to support you.”
“Like many people, making my passion my work felt like jumping off a cliff! I know how scary big changes can be and how essential it is to get ongoing support. And while making huge changes can be challenging, I wouldn’t change it for the world – finding fulfilment is essential to happiness. My own experience has given me huge amounts of empathy for clients who are either struggling to make changes or not sure which path to follow.”
What are some of the biggest issues facing your clients?
“So many people are disconnected from what’s really going on with them, not only in their bodies, but emotionally and mentally. I’m passionate about empowering people to take back control and heal themselves. When we take responsibility for ourselves it makes us and our choices important, creating a ripple effect that flows out from us to our family, our community, our planet and the universe.”
What is the best part of your work?
“It brings me enormous joy to see people’s reaction when they first start noticing the benefits. Also, when they’ve been told there’s no hope, but they’re finally not experiencing a debilitating health complaint that’s plagued them for years. That blows me away every time!”
What changes have you made to your own wellbeing?
“Recovering from adrenal fatigue (burn-out) isn’t easy but it’s possible.”
“To stay balanced I absolutely need structure in relation to diet, exercise, relaxation, SLEEP, yoga, meditation, fresh air, water and down time. Remembering to practice gratitude also helps!”
“In addition to herbal medicine, I make sure that each day I eat wholefoods – loads of colourful veggies, drink at least two litres of water, get morning exercise that makes me sweat, and make time for meditation/reflection/journal writing and reading. I also introduced diaphragmatic breathing, and make sure I stop work – no computers! – after 7pm. I aim to wind down and be in bed before 10pm, and up between 6-7am.”
What did you noticed when you began making your own health/wellbeing changes?
“I felt free. Doors kept opening up and everything was moving really fast. My life, as I knew it, completely changed. It was exciting but traumatic all at once.”
What are your qualifications?
“I have Bachelors in Health Science from Endeavour College of Natural Health.”
“I also have a Diploma of Teaching Hatha Yoga from Gita International Yoga (Melbourne), as well as, Certificates in Mindfulness-Based Stillness Meditation and Guided Imagery and Contemplation from The Gawler Foundation (Yarra Junction, Victoria).”
“I am an accredited member of the Australian Natural Therapist Association (ANTA) and Level II, Yoga Australia (YA).”
